Celebrating 75 years of the Folk Museum

2011 is the 75th anniversary of the Folk Museum and to celebrate we will be holding a number of special events, exhibitions and lectures throughout the year. Look out for the 75 symbol which denotes a special not-to-be-missed
anniversary event!

Education

The museum welcomes groups from schools and colleges during the week when we are closed to the public. We do not have an education officer but a team of knowledgeable volunteers are on hand to help you plan your visit and act as guides on the day.

Teachers have used visits to the museum to support a range of topics including the Victorians, the industrial revolution and the environment as well as providing inspiration for art and design students and creative writing projects.

We are always happy to discuss your requirements. For an informal discussion leave a message on our answering machine and we’ll ring you back.

Admission charge for schools and colleges:

• £2 per student
• Accompanying adults visit for free

A risk assessment for school visits is available on request.

Adult Groups

We can provide guided tours of the museum for adult groups and our volunteers are also able to visit your society to give an illustrated talk about the museum. Service subject to volunteer availability. Prices on request.

Re-kindle your memories with amazing childhood toys and let your children play with replicas. Discover stories of local people, dress as a University undergrad or find out about folklore cures. Hands-on activities, pram access, lift, gift shop, disabled toilet, events and temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
